The Théâtre du Gros Mécano celebrates 40 years of theatre for young audiences!

Québec, November 1st, 2016 - The Théâtre du Gros Mécano celebrates its 40th anniversary! For four decades, this producer in Quebec City has been creating plays that promote the development of children that are thirsty for colors, words, movements, emotions and wonder.

The little story
When it was founded in 1976, the Théâtre du Gros Mécano set itself the goal of developing theater for children. "At the time, theater production for the youth was included in the mission of the Trident Theater," says Carol Cassistat, artistic director and cogeneral manager. "But the cfoundation of a separate entity exclusively devoted to the production of theatre for young audience was self-evident in order to further develop this aspect of the 4th art. For 40 years, we have been offering young audiences the opportunity to live in a world where art is present, where it can change perceptions and awaken to wonder! "

Since its foundation, the Théâtre du Gros Mécano produces shows elaborated by professionals. Designed for young audiences and families, the pieces are presented throughout Quebec, Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. Taking on universal themes, the Théâtre du Gros Mécano accompanies the children in his awakening to themself and to the world surrounding them. "Children are an exceptionally open-minded audience ready to embark on the crazy adventures we offer," adds Cassistat.

More than just a producer, the Théâtre du Gros Mécano contributes to the cultural and economic vitality of Québec City. It offers quality jobs, mentorship to the artistic community and an experimental space open to creators.

On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the Théâtre du Gros Mécano is undertaking a major fundraising campaign. The goal of this exceptional event is to raise $ 400,000 to boost the company's endowment fund. Reinvested annually in the activities of the organization, the interests of this fund will enable the company to continue its mission with children. So that the adventure goes on!
For 40 years, the Théâtre du Gros Mécano has produced 50 original plays with the help of 1,000 artists and artisans from Québec City, for more than 850,000 young theater goers in the world! "It is first and foremost to light and maintain the flame of our young spectators that we work. We fundamentally believe in the intelligence and great sensitivity of children. This is what guides the work of our artists from the very beginning! ", underlines Mr. Cassistat.

Great artists have marked the last four decades of the Gros Mécano. Just think of Marie-Thérèse Fortin, who collaborated for the first time with the Theater in 1984, or Pierre-François Legendre and Fabien Cloutier, both of whom had their first mandate after leaving the Conservatoire with the TGM; without forgetting Micheline Bernard, Stéphane Allard, Anne-Marie Olivier and Marie-Josée Bastien, to name a few.

These artists invite us today to contribute to the campaign of the Theater of Gros Mecano. Let us celebrate with them 40 years of creation for the childhood, and that the adventure goes on!
